British sports car manufacturer, Lotus is expanding its electric SUV line-up with the introduction of the Lotus Type 134. This new model, alongside the existing Eletre, showcases Lotus' commitment to the electric vehicle marque and aims to rival competitors such as the Porsche Macan. The Type 134 combines the brand's signature lightweight design and agile handling with the practicality and versatility of an electric SUV.

Lotus' CEO, Mike Johnstone emphasised the company's focus on weight distribution, handling capabilities, ensuring a dynamic driving experience, and aerodynamics when it comes to the Type 134's design.

“A lot of effort has gone into ensuring the future cars that we introduce to the market handle in a way that you would expect a Lotus to handle,” said Johnstone. “Take Eletre: the attributes team have been involved in its development, people who understand what a Lotus should feel like and drive.

It isn’t just an electrified SUV with a Lotus badge on it: it’s been engineered from the beginning to look, feel and drive like a Lotus.”

The addition of the Type 134 further strengthens Lotus' presence in the luxury car market and expands its customer base beyond those interested in sports and track cars, and reaches out to the mainstream consumer, looking for daily driver.

The Lotus Type 134 is expected to be released next year. Lotus hasn't provided a price yet, however since it is competing with the likes of the Porsche Macan, you can expect it to start at around £50,000.
