The British luxury car manufacturer, owned by Volkswagen Group reported that it sold more cars last year than ever before.

Bentley has said it sold 15,174 vehicles in 2022, up by 4% from 2021, which was also a record-breaking year for the company, as the company sold 14,659 vehicles. However, sales in China, Bentley's second largest market after the United States dropped by 9%, likely as a result of coronavirus lockdowns implemented by the Chinese government. While the US market didn't drop, it only grew by less than 1%.

Europe was Bentley's third biggest market with 2809 sales, followed by Asia Pacific (2031), Britain (1490) and the Middle East, Africa and India (968).

"In what was another year of unpredictability, the business overcame significant headwinds and demonstrated great resilience to deliver the third consecutive record sales year," Said Bentley's CEO, Adrian Hallmark.

Bentley's top-selling model in 2022 was the Bentley Bentayga SUV, which has a starting price of around £150,000 ($180,000 or €167,184), accounting for forty two percent of vehicle sales - around 6,370 cars.

The Continental GT and Continental GT Convertible followed the Bentayga, accounting for 30% of Bentley's sales - about 4,550 cars.

The Bentley Flying Spur saloon accounted for the remaining 28% of sales.

Adrian Hallmark puts Bentley's growth down to the introduction of the Flying Spur and Bentayga hybrid models.

“The reaction to the market introduction of our hybrid models, the Flying Spur joining the Bentayga last year, demonstrates the path the luxury sector is heading, and we're positioned firmly at the forefront. Said Hallmark.
